Biography[]
Carrie tells Quinn that Lockhart is forcing her to stay in the USA. They continue to talk about the events in Islamabad and Carrie wants to know more about a CIA case officer who was demoted and sent back to the US. He gives Carrie the name of Jordan Harris, a case officer in Islamabad who was transferred away, in spite of an exemplary record.
Carrie finds Harris working as a CIA librarian. She asks CIA officer Jordan Harris what he knows about the events in Islamabad, but Harris refuses to talk to her about it. Reluctantly, Carrie returns home.
Carrie waits for Harris to come out of the supermarket, getting out to confront him leaving Frannie safely tucked up in her car seat. Carrie waits for Jordan Harris in the parking lot to question him again. When he gets in the car, she gets in with him and he threatens to drive away with her and leave their baby alone in the other car if she doesn't get out, but Carrie won't let him get away with it that easily.
This time she finds the right way to get Harris to talk and emphasizes that she will need the information when she returns to Pakistan to clear up the matter. In return, she promises to get him an outside assignment again. Harris says Lockhart got him demoted after he told him about an information leak in Islamabad. Carrie wants to know more about it.
The next morning, Carrie and Saul meet at Sandy Bachman's funeral.
Then Carrie goes to Lockhart and talks to him about Sandy and what she found out. She knows that Lockhart knew that Sandy was giving up secret information in exchange for the whereabouts of wanted terrorists. For these successes, Lockhart overlooked the data leak. Carrie accuses him of complicity in treason and that this information in the Senate investigation is not good for him. She blackmails him into letting her run the CIA base in Islamabad. In the church, Carrie then tells Saul that she can return to Islamabad.
After the funeral service, Peter comes to see Carrie in the empty church. She tells him what she learned from Jordan Harris and that they now have to find out who Sandy traded information with.
Background[]
Carrie questioning Jordan Harris, a shady CIA agent, about what the colleague whose cover was blown, had been up to in Islamabad.
‘Sandy Bachman was killed in the streets,’ she says, using all the interrogation techniques from her training. ‘I want to know how it happened.’
‘You were there,’ Harris points out, refusing to co-operate. ‘So why are you asking me?’. He refuses to talk to her about it.
Carrie returns home, reluctantly.
The next morning, Carrie waits for Harris to come out of the supermarket. She waits for he in the parking lot to getting out to confront him.
‘You really are bat-s**t crazy, just like they say!’ Harris scoffs. ‘You bought your kid here?! Very nice! Very professional!’ he cries in consternation.
Carrie calls his bluff though, daring him to do it, wailing ‘You think you know me?! You don’t know s**t! But I know about you!’
‘Tell me about the leak!’ Carrie urges him, excitedly. Thrown if anything by her insanity, Harris folds and informs her that it was Lockhart that threw him out of Pakistan personally, after Harris flew back to report an intelligence leak.
Carrie uses the occasion of her colleague’s funeral to corner Lockhart and accuse him of covering up the fact that Bachman was securing leads on terrorists in Islamabad by trading top secret information.
‘I know who’ve you been talking to – Harris,’ the CIA director accuses.
‘Right!’ Carrie snorts.
‘It’s called a judgement call,’ Lockhart retorts about why Harris was recalled, an explanation that prompts Carrie to protest: ‘a judgement call that got a wedding blown up!’
‘You need to listen to me,’ Mathison insists. ‘I am not staying here!’
When Carrie threatens to reveal what she knows about Harris at the Senate hearing, eventually Lockhart realises trying to stop someone as her is futile and grants her wish – to be the new station chief in Islamabad.
