Josie Mathison-Dunn (Rachel St. Gelais, Tal Raviv & Courtney Grosbeck) is the younger daughter of Maggie Mathison and Bill Dunn. She often notices that her aunt Carrie is unwell, frequently absent, and that Franny often stays with the family as a result.

Biography[]

Josie and her older sister Ruby meet up with Carrie at their house, after Carrie misses Ruby's birthday. As a teenager she is criticial of President Elizabeth Keane.

Season 1[]

Josie Mathison-Dunn has an older sister named Ruby and lives with her parents, Maggie Mathison and Bill Dunn, in Washington, D.C. She receives occasional visits from her aunt Carrie, but even young Josie notices that Carrie isn't always well. One night, Josie offers Carrie the chance to move in with them and that Josie could protect her from bad people, but Carrie replies that it's her job to take care of things.

Season 4[]

Several years later, Josie is still living a very carefree life in Washington. Meanwhile, their cousin Franny Mathison, who is still a baby, is also living with them, as Carrie couldn't properly care for her and eventually moved to Pakistan for her job.

In the episode "Long Time Coming," Josie, Ruby, Maggie, Bill, Carrie, and Saul meet at the funeral of their grandfather, Frank Mathison. Carrie is happy to see Quinn in the U.S.

Season 7[]

Josie is now a teenager and very politically engaged. She dislikes Elizabeth Keane's arbitrary arrests, which is why she participates in protests. This often puts her at odds with her father, Bill, who works for the government at the Treasury Department. Carrie treats Josie almost like an adult, so she asks for her help when she wants to arrange a meeting between Dante Allen and Sam Paley. She has Josie bring her the keys to Maggie's office but doesn't reveal what it's about, except that it has to do with her job. As Josie drives home, she sees a man getting out of Carrie's trunk in the rearview mirror. Josie was supposed to be babysitting Franny that evening but left her cousin in the care of a friend. She has no idea that her parents are returning home from the theater earlier than planned, thus revealing her absence. She has no choice but to tell them about Carrie, which leads to an argument between her parents and her aunt.

Aside from this, Josie acts like a big sister to Franny. She makes sure she's not late for school and sometimes lets her sleep in her bed at night when she's not feeling well. This happens more and more often as Carrie becomes increasingly unreliable. When it finally comes to the point where Maggie fights for custody of her niece, Josie testifies in court about how badly Franny is suffering. Josie herself, however, understands Carrie's behavior, assuming that her aunt has a very important job.
