Lauder Wakefield is a disabled, alcoholic ex-Marine who served in the same platoon as Nicholas Brody, Tom Walker, and Mike Faber.
- Lauder: Walker may have lost his mind but he did not lose his aim!
Biography[]
When Brody returns, Lauder is antagonistic towards him. He seems to understand the mind of Nicholas Brody, in both Brody's motives and his actions.
Season 1[]
Lauder Wakefield is a former Marine who served in Iraq with Nicholas Brody, Mike Faber, and Tom Walker, but was so severely wounded that he now walks with crutches.
When Brody returns from captivity, hailed as a hero and a role model for many young Americans, Lauder confronts him at Tom Walker's funeral. He believes it's wrong for Brody to advise young people to go to war after everything that happened to them. He also demands to know exactly what happened to Walker and how it's possible that only Brody, and not Walker, returned. When Lauder then reveals that Mike and Jessica had an affair while Brody was a prisoner of war, Mike snaps and attacks Lauder, confirming for Brody that something had indeed happened between Mike and Jessica.
Season 2[]
Weeks and months pass during which Lauder and Brody don't speak to each other. When Tom Walker resurfaces as a terrorist and sniper, blamed for the attack on Elizabeth Gaines, Lauder's speculations resume.
Walker's death shortly after the attack and the apparent lack of resolution also raise suspicions among Mike and several other Marine veterans. They ask Brody to use his political connections to investigate what exactly happened, but Brody refuses. Lauder's anger towards Brody intensifies, and he pesters Jessica with his theories.
One day, he simply shows up at her door, demanding more information from Brody, but Brody isn't there. Only Mike manages to get the intoxicated Lauder out of the Brody house. Lauder reiterates his theory that Tom Walker and Nick Brody worked together on the attack, and that Brody knows more about Tom's death than he's letting on. He wonders why Walker, the best sniper among them, missed Vice President Walden and only hit Elizabeth Gaines. He suspects it was a diversion for the real assassination. Gradually, he manages to convince Mike, who now tries to gather more information on his own.
Shortly afterward, Lauder and Mike meet with one of the investigating officers in Tom Walker's murder case. However, the officer reveals that they had to hand the case over to the CIA. This makes Lauder and Mike suspicious. Mike now tries to use his own contacts at the CIA to find out more.
Trivia[]
- A former Marine.
- Wakefield Lauder refer to the character as WILD Brody because Nick used to own a large number of exotic pets, hence the nickname “Wild Man Brody.”
Review[]
Lauder, the angry and inebriated legless ex-marine, went on a rant about Brody selling-out. He had a point to what he was saying, so Brody let it slide. Where Lauder crossed the line, was when he alluded to Jessica having an affair with one of the marines, which prompted Mike to attack him.
The beauty of this scene was in Brody waiting for his wife to walk out and to see what was going on, before he intervened to give Mike a beating. Despite having been conscious of the affair for a few weeks, Brody chose this one moment to act on it. This demonstrated his patience, self-control, and perfect timing. [x]
Quotes[]
- "When exactly, Wild Brody, turned into a war bastard..." - Lauder
- "Brody is a scam! He lies and doesn't even feel like he's lying." — WAKEFIELD, Lauder
