Biography[]

In season 2, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) is taken to an interrogation room. Saul angrily calls the interrogation a "farce" and tells the interrogator Mitchell Clawson (Chance Kelly) that the real reason he is there is that he has uncovered a plan to assassinate a U.S. Congressman. Among other things, Saul is interrogated about the circumstances surrounding Aileen Morgan's death, and whether Saul supplied her with the suicide weapon (his glasses).

In season 3, Fara receives a visit from Mitchell Clausen, a CIA employee, who wants to know why she has called in sick for the second day in a row and was seen by the police driving past Javadi's ex-wife's house. Clausen warns her that her loyalty is being tested and expects her back at work the next morning. When Clausen has left, her father Kuroush angrily confronts his daughter about having signed up for the CIA behind his back. He fears that the regime in Tehran could find out and the rest of the family there will have to pay for it. Fara defends herself by saying that she has long considered herself an American.

Quotes[]

  • (sighs) Larry.
  • Saul.
  • So this is what Estes is up to.
  • - What's that?
  • - This. You.
  • - A polygraph.
  • - Calm down.
  • Which he's using for one reason to keep me locked away in a room.
  • - I wouldn't know.
  • - You do know; I just told you.
  • Saul we all agree to this. Section 17-dot-three of your employment contract.
  • Fine.
  • You really have to calm down.
  • Why the fuck should I?
  • You'll fail the test.
  • Fail the test? What is this, middle school? Of course I'm gonna fail the test. The test is a goddamn farce.
  • Not to Estes it's not. He seemed very serious about it.
  • Could you stand up for me? Mm-hmm.
  • Just hold that there.
  • So, what's the pretext?
  • What do you mean?
  • I mean, what are you even gonna ask me about? Company vehicles? Excessive use of office supplies? I'm just here to set up the machine.
  • (door opens) He'll [Mitchell Clawson] be asking all the questions.
  • Who the fuck are you?

- Saul dialogues Larry

  • - Is your name Saul Berenson?
  • - Yes.
  • Are you sometimes - called "The Bear"?
  • - Fuckin' hope not.
  • No.
  • Are you presently in Alabama?
  • No.
  • Do you intend to answer truthfully here today?
  • (sighs)
  • Do you intend to answer truthfully here today?
  • Yes.
  • I'd prefer this not take all night.
  • See, I think you'd prefer that it did.
  • Are you acquainted with Aileen Morgan?
  • Yes. I was.
  • - Are you aware that she killed herself?
  • - Yes.
  • Were you with Aileen when she died?
  • Yes.

  • She said she was.
  • - Yes or no.
  • - Yes.
  • Do you live on Tripoli Lane?
  • No.
  • Did you provide the weapon Aileen Morgan used to kill herself?
  • What?
  • Answer the question.
  • Is that what this is about? I provided the weapon?
  • Did you provide the weapon - Aileen Morgan used to kill herself?
  • - You tell Estes no matter how many bullshit charges he trumps up, I'm onto him. He wants to frame me for her death? Go ahead, try.
  • You know what this is really about? Do you? A plan to assassinate a U.S. Congressman the second Abu Nazir is out of the picture.
  • Why don't you ask me a few questions about that?
  • Did you provide the weapon Aileen Morgan used to kill herself?

- Saul to Mitchell Clawson

  • Thanks for getting this done so quickly.
  • My pleasure.
  • How'd it go?
  • It's all there, everything you wanted.
  • I quizzed him on the main topics we discussed.
  • The illegal surveillance of Sergeant Brody, the death of Aileen Morgan, general insubordination.
  • Plus a couple of detours I found along the way.
  • So we're done.
  • You've got enough there to do what you want.
  • You can fire him, tie him up in administrative proceedings for the next decade, refer him to harsher interrogations.
  • I'm hoping none of that will be necessary.
  • Yeah, sure, goes without saying.
  • Funny detail, though.
  • He went on this crazy rant about an assassination plot against a U.S. Congressman.
  • The machine said he was telling the truth.
  • I'm calling it an anomaly.
  • Thought it was best to leave it out.

- Mitchell Clawson to David Estes

  • Fara Sherazi?
  • And you are?
  • Mitchell Clawson from the IG's office.
  • IG?
  • Inspector General.
  • May I come in?
  • This way.
  • May I offer you something?
  • I'm good.
  • You called in sick two days in a row. Is something the matter?
  • Migraines.
  • Yet you drove into work yesterday.
  • Yes.
  • Where you sat in the parking lot for over half an hour before deciding to leave again.
  • I was hoping that it would go away.
  • Is that why you then paid a visit to 1426 Longhill Road where the recent double murder happened? The Bethesda PD took down your license number.
  • The Agency had to call in a lot of favors to close that investigation.
  • Your going over there jeopardized all that.
  • I wanted to see where it happened.
  • Why?
  • It upset me.
  • I was upset by it.
  • Director Berenson has shown an unusual degree of confidence in you, Miss Sherazi entrusted you with matters of national importance.
  • I'm aware of that.
  • But your current state of mind makes your loyalty to him and to the Agency a very live issue.
  • Tell the director not to worry. I'm fine.
  • You can tell him yourself when you come in to work tomorrow.
  • Yes.
