No one’s gonna understand how we fucked up terrorism if they don’t understand how we fucked up the Cold War - LANGMORE, Sandy
Former CIA agent Sandy Langmore is working as a lecturer in the USA when she receives a visit from Saul Berenson. Because of the events in Lucasville, he needs her expertise on Russian espionage programs. She quickly becomes part of Saul's secret investigative team that investigates various activities of the Russian secret service on American soil.
Background[]
Sandy Langmore is a former CIA agent and Russia expert who was stationed in Berlin before being fired by Allison Carr. She then works as a lecturer in the USA, where one day she is unexpectedly visited by Saul Berenson, who needs her help. He suspects that the Russian secret services, and in particular Yevgeny Gromov, are responsible for various operations on American soil and needs their expertise. Sandy agrees to help him. Shortly afterwards, Saul leads Sandy to secret offices, where he introduces her to Clint Prower, who is assisting her in the investigation as a technical analyst. They quickly make progress and identify a Twitter network that Yevgeny used both in Lucasville and with a leaked video about David Wellington.
Shortly afterwards, Max Piotrowski joins the team and together they determine connections between Simone Martin and the Russians. This is how they track down Dante Allen, who probably manipulated Carrie Mathison with false information. A little later, when Dante, after almost dying after an interrogation, gives them a code that could be used to turn off Yevgeny's Twitter network, Sandy expresses concerns that this code could also be a warning for Yevgeny. However, Carrie stubbornly assures her that they can trust Dante this time because he believes Yevgeny wanted to kill him. While they then use the code to track down the real users on the network, Sandy helps identify the people. She recognizes Paul Wyler as Yevgeny's money manager.
A few days later, Sandy tries to help Saul from home, otherwise her husband will find out about her new secret job. She found out that two Russian private planes took off near the hospital shortly before and after Dante's death and suspects that it has something to do with Yevgeny. She also assumes that Simone Martin is still alive and was on one of the planes. During her research, she finds out that the two had met eleven years earlier in Paris while studying and that they had probably fallen in love with each other. She immediately shares this information with Saul, who can then find out about her whereabouts near Moscow. Yevgeny had written about it in his study materials at the time.
When the mission in Russia goes wrong, Carrie contacts Sandy and Max to help her develop a plan B. Carrie wants to antagonize the Russian secret services so that they can lead her to Simone. Sandy comes up with the idea of freezing General Yakushin's funds in American banks to put pressure on him. Together, Sandy and Max support the subsequent mission from Washington. When Clint doesn't show up for work on time, behaves strangely and then keeps receiving calls throughout the day, Sandy finds it suspicious. She finally wants to know what's going on and learns that Clint has betrayed Senator Paley's assistant Janet Bayne from the mission. This explains why the Russians knew about the planned arrest of Simone Martin and the mission failed. Sandy then keeps an eye on Clint.
Three days later, Sandy and the team that returned from Russia follow the news in which Simone Martin is testifying before Congress. Then Saul suddenly appears in their office with President Keane, who thanks them for their efforts.
Trivia[]
During Saul’s meeting with Sandy, she refers to Allison Carr as a “textbook honey trap.”
Quotes[]
- So, you were saying?
- About Allison Carr the day you were fired.
- Thrown out of the building, you mean. I did not go quietly, Saul.
- I heard.
- She said, "You're not a team player." A team player. As if I didn't know the real reason. She wanted the Russia desk for herself. She wanted the whole damn division, Saul... your job, too. You were in love with her, I suppose.
- Suppose I was.
- Textbook honey trap. You, of all people, to fall for that. Meanwhile, she lined us all up in a row so she could crawl right over our backs.
- I'm sorry. I should've protected you better. Little late for an apology, don't you think?
- What do you want? - Sandy talking with Saul
- Ivan Krupin doesn't think he's dead.
- Ivan, you've seen Ivan.
- Of course you have.
- How is my favorite handsome hood?
- Hiding something.
- How I would have loved to have done his debrief. - Sandy Langmore expressed a desire to interrogate Ivan Krupin.
