Played by Jamey Sheridan, William Walden was the Vice President of the United States and former director of the CIA.
William Walden is the Vice President of the United States and a former director of the CIA. Both Brody and Abu Nazir hold him accountable for the drone strike that killed Nazir's son Issa. Walden capitalizes on Brody's political value following his return from captivity, offering him a seat in the House of Representatives in a special election.
Not long after Brody is elected to Congress, Walden launches his own presidential bid and asks Brody to be his running mate. Walden is killed during a meeting with Brody when Nazir's associates tamper with his pacemaker. Brody agrees to provide the pacemaker's serial number for Nazir in exchange for releasing Carrie as his hostage. In Walden's dying moments, Brody finally disavows him in person and refuses to save him. Walden attended the University of Notre Dame and was an All-American football player there.
He approached Nick Brody with an offer to run for the U.S. House of Representatives to replace a disgraced politician, a move that will also assist his own candidacy for president.
In season 1, Issa was killed in a drone strike ordered by Vice President Bill Walden which was directed at his father, Abu Nazir. Walden denied that any children were killed in the strike, even though he hit a school with 82 children, with his full knowledge and support from David Estes. Brody was visibly devastated by Issa's death and silently outraged by Walden's denial. This was the event that "turned" Brody and caused him to nearly blow himself up in order to kill the vice president and several others.
However, Walden is also the chief target of Abu Nazir's terrorist operation in retaliation for a 2009 drone strike that killed Nazir's young son in Syria (Homeland novel: Saul's Game). Brody is ironically the man that was assigned with the task of assassinating Walden (Crossfire).
Congressman Brody is also Walden's choice for a running mate when he runs for President of the United States of America. Walden attended the University of Notre Dame and was an All-American football player there.
In season 2, Avenging Issa also appears to be part of Brody's motive for sending Abu Nazir the serial number for Walden's pacemaker, which allowed someone to hack the device, killing him.
